When your family income changes, the CCS details you entered may no longer match real life. Your previous estimate or baseline could be out of date — and that difference can build up over the financial year.
Estimate your CCS today — then keep checking when life changes.

The Child Care Subsidy is based on your family's estimated combined income for the financial year. That income estimate — the figure you or your partner provided to Services Australia — is what Centrelink uses to calculate the percentage of childcare fees it subsidises.
If your actual income ends up significantly higher or lower than your estimate, there can be a gap between the CCS you received during the year and the CCS you were actually entitled to. That gap gets resolved at balancing time — and it can mean an unexpected debt, or a payment you were owed.
Running a CCS Checkup when your income changes can help you identify possible debt risk, possible missed subsidy risk, or possible review points — so you know whether it may be worth updating your estimate with Services Australia.
Consider running a CCS checkup if any of the following apply to your family:
Pay rise or promotion
Higher income may mean your CCS percentage could be lower than your current estimate reflects.
Reduced hours or part-time shift
Lower income may mean you are entitled to a higher subsidy percentage — but your baseline may not reflect that yet.
Job loss or leave without pay
A significant income drop can change your CCS picture substantially.
Starting a new job
Whether your income goes up or down, a new role means your family income estimate may need to be updated.
Partner's income changes
CCS is based on combined family income. If your partner's income changes, your combined estimate may be out of date.
Second job or extra income
Additional income sources affect the combined family total used to calculate your CCS.
Income estimate no longer looks right
Even without a specific event, if what you entered as your income estimate no longer matches real life, a check may be worthwhile.
A one-off CCS estimate — whether from a calculator or a previous Centrelink check — is based on the details you entered at the time. It reflects a snapshot of your circumstances at that moment.
But income can change multiple times during a financial year. Every time it does, your previous estimate may drift further from your real situation. The further the drift, the larger the potential gap at balancing time.
That is why a one-off snapshot is a useful starting point — but ongoing checkups are what help families stay on top of their CCS throughout the year, especially when circumstances keep changing.
CCS Checkup is designed for exactly this: estimate-only decision support for families who want to keep checking when life changes, not just when they first set up childcare.

Estimate-only decision support
CCS Checkup is not a generic calculator. It is designed for ongoing checkups — so you can compare your current Centrelink CCS baseline against a projected change and see what the difference might look like.
Start with a free one-off snapshot:
The Quick CCS Calculator gives you a free estimate of your out-of-pocket childcare costs based on the details you enter. No subscription needed. It is a useful starting point when income has changed and you want to see how the numbers might look.
Then track ongoing changes with Track My CCS:
A$4.99/month. Cancel anytime. Secure payment via Stripe.
CCS Checkup provides estimate-only decision support. It is not connected to Services Australia or your Centrelink records. It does not access, read, or update any official records.
All calculations are based on the details you enter. Services Australia and Centrelink determine actual CCS entitlements, payments, debts, and balancing outcomes based on your individual circumstances.
If your income has changed and you believe your CCS estimate may no longer be accurate, the right next step is to update your income estimate directly with Services Australia — either via myGov or by contacting Centrelink.
CCS Checkup can help you prepare for that conversation — by giving you an estimate-only view of how a change may affect your situation, before you contact Centrelink.
Start with a free one-off snapshot, or go straight to Track My CCS for ongoing checkups when life changes.
